Chronic Inflammation:

Normal inflammation is your body's way of fighting infection or injury, harmful toxins, illness, and if untreated, may lead to chronic inflammation - causing body pain, headache, sore throat, fever, dizziness, body discomfort, including joint stiffness, tendonitis, muscle pain, insomnia, and other serious illnesses. Autoimmune conditions are brought on by the immune system attacking healthy cells and tissue as a result of prolonged inflammation.

Overproduction of inflammatory cytokines can be a result of chronic inflammation.
Chronic inflammation floods the body with these chemicals, which then start to destroy healthy muscle and joint tissue. This causes pain, swelling, redness, and stiffness.

Nowadays, many people suffer from chronic inflammation due to a poor diet filled with processed foods, too much stress and lack of exercise.

Chronic inflammation can be caused by bacterial and viral infections, injury, irregular sleep pattern, depression and excessive stress will cause excessive secretion of adrenaline and adrenal glucocorticoids, increase the secretion of cytokines, and cause chronic inflammation.


Excessive intake of  processed foods, foods cooked in high heat, deep-fried foods, processed gluten, artificial additives and preservatives, alcohol,  sugar, 3 in 1 coffee, milk, trans fats, omega-6 fatty acids, hydrogenated fats, cream, shortening, margarine, and cheese, which will lead to increased blood lipids, prompting cells to locally release inflammatory factors, and then cause vascular endothelial damage. Research suggests that eating lots of sugar can lead to chronic inflammation. Sugars release pro-inflammatory substances in the body, causing inflammation in the joints, body aches and pains.   

Sitting for a long time will not only disturb the metabolism of lipids and carbohydrates, but also impair the circulation of blood vessels, especially in the lower extremities, resulting in local microthrombosis and local vascular inflammation, leading to vascular inflammatory diseases in the lower extremities.

Another possible caused of chronic inflammation  is simply aging, which  can put us at risk of increased chronic inflammation, possibly due to a lifetime’s exposure to pollutants and toxins, or an increase in visceral (belly) fat. Excess body fat, especially visceral fat, which is stored in the belly and around major organs is one of the leading causes of chronic, widespread inflammation.

Diseases associated with chronic inflammation include Type-2 diabetes, autoimmune diseases, cancer, allergic, rashes, (eczema and psoriasis), cardiovascular disease, dementia, brain swelling, stroke, asthma, sinusitis, chronic peptic ulcer, head inflammation, digestive issues, heart disease, oxidative stress,  neck pain, knee pain, chronic shoulder pain, gastritis,
High triglycerides, High cholesterol, High blood pressure, Sticky blood syndrome,  and Alzheimer's disease. Constant bloating, cramping in the abdomen, gas, constipation, and loose stools are all symptoms of chronic inflammation.

Inflammation is very common, and many people don’t think it’s a big problem. But did you know that inflammation is related to a variety of chronic diseases.

A blood test called the C-reactive protein (CRP) test is used to determine whether your body is inflamed. Your liver produces the protein known as CRP, which is then released into the bloodstream. As soon as your body is affected by an infection or inflammation, your CRP levels begin to rise.


Studies have found that many chronic diseases are related to "chronic inflammation" in the body. The "inflammation" mentioned here refers to chronic inflammation caused by the long-term overproduction of various inflammatory cytokines, such as interleukins, tumor necrosis factor and interferon, etc., caused by the body's sub-healthy state such as improper diet, leaky gut, toxic hepatitis, and stress. Chronic inflammation can be caused by when there is no external threat, your body nevertheless releases inflammatory cells.

For instance, in rheumatoid arthritis, the tissues of the joints are attacked by inflammatory cells and chemicals, resulting in intermittent inflammation.
This may result in excruciating joint discomfort. Long-term chronic inflammation can persist for several months or even years.

We often don’t have obvious feelings, but if the body is in a state of inflammation for a long time, it will induce “combined chronic diseases” such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, Alzheimer’s disease, soreness in the muscles, brain inflammation, tendonitis, gastrointestinal issues, lung disorders, autoimmune diseases, neurological diseases, shoulder pain, chronic headache, and stiff joints. Sleep disorders like insomnia, sleep apnea and persistent fatique, and even cancer are linked to chronic inflammation.

Inflammation from the body, such as that from untreated autoimmune conditions, leaky gut syndrome, infections, toxins in the body, poor gut health, constipation, chronic joint pain, can result in inflammation in the brain. The body's release of immune cells known as cytokines during inflammation causes the brain to become inflamed as well.


Various bioactive components in the diet (including energy and nutrients) can affect the inflammatory response process in the human body.

For example:-


1. Foods high in sugar and refined carbohydrates:
High-sugar foods such as cakes, biscuits, and soft drinks, as well as refined carbohydrate foods such as white rice, white steamed buns, white bread, fried dough sticks, rice cakes, and rice noodles will be metabolized into glucose in the human body.


2. Red meat and highly processed meat:
Smoked meat, barbecue, ham, sausage, bacon and other meat products will produce harmful substances such as N-nitroso compounds, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and heterocyclic amines during the deep processing and production process. Excessive consumption will increase the oxidative stress of the human body, and promote inflammatory response.

3. High-fat foods n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (Omega-6 fatty acids) can produce inflammatory prostaglandins (PGs), thromboxane and leukotrienes (LT) under the catalysis of various enzymes. They act as inflammatory mediators and regulators to promote inflammatory responses. Omega-6 fatty acids are commonly found in vegetable oils used for home cooking. The content is arranged in descending order as follows: corn oil > sesame oil > sunflower oil > soybean oil > rice bran oil > peanut oil > rapeseed oil.

4. Highly processed food: Some highly processed foods, such as biscuits, bread, cakes, milk tea and other snacks, often contain trans fatty acids. Be wary if you see words such as "non-dairy creamer, refined vegetable oil, hydrogenated vegetable oil, hydrogenated shortening, ghee, margarine, vegetable butter, margarine" in the ingredient list. Excessive intake of trans fatty acids can aggravate the body's inflammatory response and promote the occurrence of atherosclerosis.

5. For those who have a milk allergy, drinking milk or meals containing milk will cause an inflammatory immunological reaction.

6. Peanuts are infamous for triggering immediate, severe, acute, and potentially deadly allergic reactions.

Anti-inflammatory Foods:


1. Vegetables

Spinach and other dark green leafy vegetables; carrots, tomatoes, purple onions, kelp and other dark vegetables; especially cruciferous vegetables broccoli, spinach, cabbage, kale, Chinese cabbage, cauliflower, etc - all are anti-inflammatory including mushroom.

Vitamin C, beta-carotene, minerals, dietary fiber, and antioxidant phytochemicals are abundant in dark veggies, carrots, pumpkins, and other foods with a yellow-orange color.

2. Fruits


Avocado, Kiwi, peach, apricot and plum, orange, grapefruit, cherry, cherry tomato, etc. Berries are particularly recommended, such as raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, etc., which are rich in antioxidant anthocyanins and polyphenols, both of which are helpful in reducing inflammation.

3. Whole grains and legumes

Whole grains include coarsely processed brown rice, oats, black rice, multigrain noodles, etc. and starchy beans, such as red beans, mung beans, chickpeas, kidney beans, etc.

Compared with refined carbohydrates, whole grains contain more protein, B vitamins, minerals and dietary fiber, as well as some antioxidant phytochemicals such as anthocyanins, beta-carotene, tannins, etc., which are beneficial to reduce inflammatory response.

4. Spices

Commonly used spices in Chinese cooking include red onion, ginger, garlic, cinnamon, star anise, black pepper, etc., which have strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. Other spices such as turmeric, rosemary, etc. are often used in Western cooking. Green tea is rich in antioxidants such as tea polyphenols and has first-class anti-inflammatory effects.

5. Cooking Oil:

Choosing good fats or oils is also a key part of an anti-inflammatory diet. The idea is to reduce pro-inflammatory oils, increase anti-inflammatory oils, and optimize the proportion of fatty acid structure.
To  combat inflammation, choose oils high in monounsaturated fatty acids or omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids. Good  anti-inflammatory oils include olive oil, avocado oil, and flaxseed oil. Oils are never comprised of just one type of fat. Instead, they are made up of a variety of fatty acids in differing amounts.

Monounsaturated: Olive, avocado, canola, almond, and peanut oils
Saturated: Lard, Coconut oil and palm oils
Omega-3 polyunsaturated: Flaxseed oil
Omega-6 polyunsaturated: Corn, soybean, grapeseed, safflower, sunflower, hemp, walnut,   and cottonseed oils.

Drink two cups of this tea daily for a few days.

Note: The latex from the green papaya contains an enzyme known as papain, which is a popular folk remedy to reduce pain, inflammation, and swelling. Do not wash away the latex after cutting the papaya.

Honey Lemongrass Ginger Tea

Lemongrass, ginger and pandan leaves have powerful anti-inflammatory  properties that help reduce inflammation in blood vessels and arteries.

Ingredients:


Water
  - 1000 ml
 

3-inch Ginger-(Slice thinly or smash it) 
Lemongrass  - 3 stalks

Pandan leaves - 2 pieces (Cut into 3-inch long)
Lemon - 3
slices

Instructions

Cut Lemongrass into 3-inch long, slice lemongrass lengthwise or crush them slightly.
Bring water to boil in a saucepan, add ginger, lemongrass, pandan leaves, and simmer for 10  minutes.
Add in slice lemon, boil for another 2 minutes.
While still warm, add 1 teaspoon of Manuka Honey per cup of the decoction.

Drink a cup of the  tea  three times a day.


Guava Leaf Tea
The anti-inflammatory abilities of guava leaves, when brewed into a tea, can soothe inflammation, and reducing pain, swelling, redness, heat, and loss of function.
The leaves of the guava tree are full of antioxidants, anti-inflammatory agents, and antibacterial properties that can have significant health benefits, from treating stomach troubles to chronic diseases like cancer.
Put about 10 fresh leaves in a cooking pan. Add 2 cups of water and boil and simmer for about 15 minutes. Allow to steep for another 15 minutes. Add a teaspoon of Honey per cup of the tea.

Pandan Ginger Herbal Tea
Serving for 1 person

Ingredients:
1 Pandan leaf (Cut into 1 inch long)
1 inch Ginger (Smashed or Cut into thin slices)
1 Star Anise (八角)
350 ml water

Boil and simmer for 10 minutes. Serve as a tea while still warm.
Drink every morning and every night.
If the body is heaty, drink only in the morning.
