What are fibroids? Fibroids are abnormal growths (tumors) that form in a woman's uterus (Womb). There are different fibroids, which can develop in several locations in and on the uterus. These tumors can become quite large and cause abdominal pain and heavy periods.  Signs and Symptoms of growth in the uterus include heavy bleeding during your periods, abnormal uterine bleeding, lower back pain, pain in the leg, difficult defecation, increase urination, swelling in the abdomen, menstrual cramping, and pain during your periods. Possible Causes: Hormone imbalance, family history, overweight, high blood pressure, diet, chronic stress, lack of Vitamin D, toxins in the body can influence the growth of fibroids. Ovarian cysts are solid or fluid-filled pockets in or on your ovary, especially in a woman who still get their period.  Abnormal ovarian cysts, such as polycystic ovarian disease, may occur as the result of an imbalance of female hormones (too much estrogen and too little progesterone). Uterine polyps are growths attached to the inner wall of the uterus and symptoms include irregular menstrual bleeding, vaginal bleeding after menopause, bleeding between menstrual periods. Excess estrogen is linked to the growth of uterine polyps. Estrogen and progesterone are the hormones produced by the ovaries. They cause the uterine lining to regenerate during each menstrual cycle and may stimulate the growth of fibroids. Excessive estrogen leads to the development of various uterine fibroids.  What Causes Excess Estrogen? If you have fibroids, avoid meat and poultry from your supermarket as most meats have been treated with various antibiotics, growth hormones, etc which may produce more estrogen in your body. Limit intake of certain foods that increase your estrogen level:- All non-fermented soy products (Soy milk, Tofu), Cow's milk, Ice-cream, Hormone- induced meats, High-fat dairy products, White flour products, Sugar, Salty foods, Egg, Processed foods, Chocolate, and Refined carbohydrates. Avoid Exposure to Xenoestrogens. The sources of xenoestrogens are:- Personal care products (cosmetics), storing water in a plastic bottle (especially leaving it in a hot car), food storage plastic containers, foaming agents from soaps and detergents, birth control pills, hormone replacement drugs, spermicides, and pesticides. Note:- High amounts of estrogen in the blood are linked to cancer. Avoid microwaving your food which could expose you to carcinogenic toxins released from plastic containers and also destroyed much of the nutrients in the food. Medication is known to have a greater ability to shrink fibroid when compared to using herbs and treatment involves surgical removal if the tumor is large.
